9 Fashion Tips from a Plus Size CEO

Hello ladies!

At one time or another, all of us have made some “I can’t believe I bought that” choices while shopping.  Those items either get stuffed in the closet (tags and all) never to be seen again, or even worse, we wear an item even when it’s not very flattering.

The following tips are to help you feel good about what is in your closet, and what awesomeness you wear on your body.  Plus, help you create smart, “no brainer” outfit picking.  Enjoy!

#1 – Wear V-Necks

V-necks are thought to be more flattering for large-busted women. But, the right one looks great on anyone. They are my personal favorite plus it allows space to showcase an amazing necklace.

#2 – Close the door on wide legged pants

Straight Leg Wide Leg

Some people love their super, wide-leg pants and some people love them straight. I’ve heard that having a wider leg will make you seem slimmer, but I don’t agree.  Tell  us which style you choose in the comments below.

#3 – Say “yes” to ruching and fitted blouses

Super-loose fitting tops make anyone look larger. Choose tops that draw the fabric in (no matter how slightly) to accentuate your waist. This pretty velour top is from DressBarn.

#4 – Choose solid bottoms… mostly.

A rule of thumb is to wear darker solids for the bottoms (skirts/pants) and save your prints for the top for a sleek and slimming look. When you break this rule at the office, make sure your base is dark. The printed pant is based in black with 1 color (blue) as a contrast.  They are cute, but may not have the classic business edge that the solid black pair have.   Which person is the assistant and which is the CEO?

#5 – Flatter your face with sophisticated neck wear

Scarves and necklaces make wonderful accents  and flatter your face.

#6 – Consider blue instead of basic black

All shades of blue and add a bit of personality to your everyday, office outfits. These  three blazers are from Talbots. Click the images for more deets.

#7 – Take notes/photos to keep developing your “best” style

Take notes on what you like, and what didn’t look great on you. Save it on your computer and develop your own personal shopping reference when you are hunting for new things.

#8 – Shop with Friends

Shop with friends to get real feedback on how you look in an item, before you shell out the cash.  Plus, you get to hang out with your friends and possibly make new ones!

#9 – Purge your closet!

sell

Sell the clothes (that are in good condition) in person or online. Not only do you clear out your closet, you get cash for new goodies!  Whatever you don’t sell, donate to a great charity.
